Providing older adults the opportunity to access FREE weekly sport based sessions and social activities in the local community to help increase physical activity levels and reduce social isolation
Leyton Orient Trust have been delivering the Extra Time programme to adults aged 65+ for over six years. The aim of the Extra Time project is simple - to engage the older community in activities to improve their physical, mental and social wellbeing by taking part in regular activities. Each weekly session lasts for an hour and activities are rotated in six week blocks around the year to offer as many opportunities as possible for people to engage in. Sessions are fully inclusive and refreshments are provided. We encourage participants to make time for a chat and a cuppa at the start and end of each activity.
A range of activities are offered during the programme including:
- Tai Chi with Tea
- Carpet Bowls
- Chair Based Exercise
- Movement to Music
- Walking Football
- Computer Club
- Arts and Crafts
- Reminiscence Sessions
- Armchair Olympics
For those that are not sporty, we still invite everyone to come along for the social aspect to make new friends and catch up over light refreshments.
Sessions are FREE and no prior experience is needed for any of the activities, our friendly tutors and community champions will be on hand to help out!
